Ultrasound examination helps distinguish fluid from soft tissue masses and foreign bodies, among others. Results obtained from ultrasound examinations are used to determine a more accurate diagnosis. Ultrasound is also traditionally used to determine the pregnancy status of your pets.
What to Expect:
- Preparation: Your pet may be lightly sedated in preparation for the procedure. Light sedation would significantly reduce stress for your pet, and allows us to more easily manipulate your pet for better views.
- Procedure: A special gel will be applied to the area being examined. The veterinarian uses a probe (called a transducer) to send sound waves into your pet’s body and create images of the internal organs on a monitor.
- Duration: The procedure typically takes 20-30 minutes, depending on the area being examined.
